The AELC Tutor Tools Blog is a communication tool developed by the AELC for WCC Literacy Volunteers. This Blog offers reviews of websites that might be used by tutors and students alike, comments on adult education instruction and general information on the AELC. While there is always a chance that a website will 'disappear', the sites reviewed here are academic sites that should continue for quite a while.
What you may want to note is that in addition to the review from the reviewer, there is a comments button at the bottom of each post. You can add your impressions of the website, ask any questions of the tutor community, or make general comments. When a comment is added, the '0' in front of comments is increased by 1. This allows for a threaded discussion of the website, and can be added at any time. There is also an archiving feature, so you can always go back to find a posting that interested you.
Also, note that there is a label at the bottom of each post which gives you a 'keyword' to sort through the archived posts and find what you need. The Blog can also be used as a question/answer forum. For example, a classroom instructor might ask what the AELC has available on the Constitution, or on making inferences. Perhaps there is a question on how to set up a tour of the Center. Or a tutor might ask about software to address pronunciation problems.
As I stated earlier, this Blog has been developed to strengthen communications within the AELC department, and enhance the range of educational opportunities for our students. It is meant to be a give and take. If you are interested in becoming a contributing member of the AELC Tutor Tools Blog, send me an email to jsotir@waubonsee.edu and include your name, your email address and the Blog(s) that you want to join. You will then receive an invitation to join the Blog at that email address. The invitation will ask you to choose a user name and password. Once you have those set, you can read and write to the Blog from any Internet browser, using the address and signing in. Any ideas can be sent either to my email or addressed directly on the Blog.
